Spring Into Action -Ways to Incorporate Exercise Into Your Daily Routine

Incorporate ExerciseSpring time is around the corner, meaning lighter evening hours with more time for activities! Unfortunately, exercise can get put last on our priority list. With summer quickly approaching, it is time to start adding healthy exercise habits into our daily routine so we can have the energy we need to do all the summer time things that we love!

According to the Center for Disease Control, moderate exercise for 30 minutes per day has a wide range of health benefits including helping to control weight, making bones and joints stronger, reducing risks of certain types of cancers and heart disease, improving mental health and mood, as well as increases your chances of living longer. Here are some tips to help you incorporate exercise into your daily routine and improve your overall well-being.

Commit
Commit to yourself that you will make a conscious effort to move more and be more active. Just 10 minutes of activity, three times a day, can allow us to reap some of the benefits of exercise. Your body follows what your mind does!

Set Goals
Set small, realistic goals for you to incorporate exercise every day. Pencil it in as an appointment with yourself, promise to wake up 15 minutes early and do a short workout video or some push-ups before your morning shower, or simply walk during your lunch break. Anything to get your heart pumping!

Get a Step Tracker
Exercise trackers are a great way to analyze your daily activity. Odds are you aren’t walking as much as you think! Start taking the stairs, walk over to your coworker instead of emailing them, or park far away from the grocery store entrance. Strive for 10,000 steps per day and don’t stop moving until you get there.

Exercise Apps
Exercise apps are also a great way to incorporate small bursts of exercise during the day. There are meditation apps, yoga apps, tabata apps, couch to 5k apps,  and even weight training apps that are easy to take on-the-go and to perform whenever you have a quick 10-15 minutes. Do an energizing yoga sequence before starting your morning routine for a refreshing start to the day.

Make It Portable
Do you have a favorite workout DVD or website that you love? Make a portable exercise kit that you can keep in your car in case you have a short break. Along with your DVD’s, throw in a pair of gym clothes, some resistance bands, a small pair of hand-weights and your favorite water bottle and keep it with you wherever you go!

Find a Workout Buddy
Grab a friend and head out to the trails. Exercising with a friend is a great way to hold each other accountable! Sync your schedules to make time to meet up a few times a week for a good sweat sesh. You wouldn’t want to leave your friend hanging at the gym, would you?

Incorporate Your Kids and
Family Members
Head to the park and play a family soccer game, fly kites, start a family kickball tournament, go on a bike ride, and take your dog on a walk. The more active you are, the better example you are setting for your family. Incorporate everyone in your new healthy habits and maybe you will start a new family tournament tradition!
